HOUSE OF ROAD SCHOLAR MUSIC

Explore the World of Jazz Music with Us

Welcome to the House of Road Scholar Music, where the boundaries of jazz fusion are shattered, and a new era of sonic exploration begins!

Prepare to be dazzled as you embark on a musical odyssey of self-discovery and artistic growth. As the visionary founder of Road Scholar Music (RSM), my journey has been shaped by the tapestry of my cultural heritage and the knowledge gained through education in both Australia and the United States. During my time in America, the Founder delved into doctoral studies and a teaching fellowship in Indiana, at a Big Ten School that boasts alumni like Neil Armstrong, who took that monumental step onto the lunar surface as part of NASA's ground-breaking mission. Inspired by the cosmos and fuelled by a thirst for adventure, this creative architect set foot across our magnificent planet, absorbing the beauty and diversity of regions spanning Asia, the Far East, Oceania, the Pacific, North Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Europe, and America. Through these transformative experiences, the Founder discovered the power of music—a supreme expression that has become the originator's personal journey of soul-searching.

For the Founder, music is an uninhibited outpouring of the authentic self. It demands the involvement of your entire being—mind, body, and spirit. No longer confined to objectivity or subjectivity, it transcends all boundaries, enveloping you in an immersive experience of sound and emotion.

Among the vast array of genres, jazz reigns supreme, captivating me with its unrivalled allure. It beckons forth individual creativity and invites unique expressions of the soul. At its very core lies the art of improvisation, a sacred process that births spontaneous melodies that resonate with the depths of the human spirit. In the words of the legendary Sonny Rollins, "Improvisation is the ability to create something very spiritual, something of one's own."

Within the realm of jazz fusion, this Label humbly contribute its own hand picked improvisational tapestries—a fusion of jazz and blues genres interwoven with the vibrant threads of world music. Each composition is a testament to the relentless pursuit of innovation and authenticity. Drawing inspiration from luminaries like Miles Davis and Stan Getz, who fearlessly shattered the frames of convention while exuding an irresistible coolness, Road Scholar Music (RSM) strives to make incremental contributions to a global reservoir of all-encompassing experiential cultural richness, language, expression, and consciousness. This, for the Label encapsulates life and humanity as is perceived. Together, as listeners, as an audience, as inhabitants of this world, we co-create, experience, and share these musical explorations, forging a bond of passive observation, active participation, and heartfelt response.

As RSM has evolved, it has taken on the mantle of a record label, providing a platform for emerging artists to join us on this extraordinary journey. Together, we release their improvisational and cross-genre works, infused with the soul-stirring essence of jazz, blues, and rock. Be sure to explore the diverse offerings of Road Scholar Music on platforms like Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, iTunes, Deezer, and more. Allow the music of artists such as La Vida, whose captivating blend of Spanish, Latin, jazz, blues, and world music transports you to new realms; Ibiza, a fusion of dance and a kaleidoscope of genres; and the trailblazing sounds of The Indianer Band, where blues rock, world music, and cross-genre experimentation converge. Our label's music is a creative fusion of new sounds, infused with the unmistakable essence of jazz and blues while drawing upon contemporary genres and the influences of Indian Hindustani music. The modern sound of our jazz fusion releases resonates with elements of swing, Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, Balboa, Jitterbug, Nu Jazz, Jazztronica, vocal jazz, lounge, neotango, quiet storm, progressive trance, deep liquid, charango, modern salsa, salsa cubana, rumba, timba, balearic, flamenco guitar, ritmo kombina, latino comedy, classic soul, neo soul, torch song, r&b, Motown, amapiano, dancehall, Milwaukee hip hop, nederreggae, reggaefusion, reggaeton, jazz funk, drumfunk, neurofunk, drum and bass, atmospheric dub, zouk, bajan soca, chillsynth, space way, progress breaks, bossbeat, alternative dance, new rave, Finnish EDM, electronica, urban music, gothic rock, jam band, modern progressive rock, neo-traditional progressive, geek, and symphonic rock. Some releases even incorporate Western Classical overtures, expanding the boundaries of musical expression.

Bill Evans - Sunday at the Village Vanguard (1961 Album)

Sunday at the Village Vanguard is a 1961 album by jazz pianist and composer Bill Evans. The album is routinely ranked as one of the best live jazz recordings of all time. Personnel: Bill Evans (p) Scott LaFaro (b) Paul Motian (dr) Released: Early October 1961 Recorded: June 25, 1961 Label: Riverside Producer: Orrin Keepnews "Gloria's Step" (take 2) (Scott LaFaro) "My Man's Gone Now" (George Gershwin) "Solar" (Miles Davis) "Alice in Wonderland" (take 2) (Sammy Fain) "All of You" (take 2) (Cole Porter) "Jade Visions" (take 2) (Scott LaFaro) "Gloria's Step" (take 3) "Alice in Wonderland" (take 1) "All of You" (take 3) "Jade Visions" (take 1) Sunday at the Village Vanguard was recorded live on June 25, 1961 at the Village Vanguard in New York City over five recorded sessions (2 matinee and 3 soiree). It is well remembered as the final performance by the Evans trio of the time, which included bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. LaFaro was killed in a car accident ten days after the recording. Evans and producer Orrin Keepnews reportedly selected the tracks for Sunday at the Village Vanguard to best feature LaFaro's masterly performance on bass, beginning and ending with two tracks ("Gloria's Step" and "Jade Visions") written by LaFaro himself, and with all the others featuring solos by him. This album is routinely ranked as one of the best live jazz recordings of all time. Additional material from the same day's performance was released in a second album Waltz for Debby (also 1961), as was other material in another LP Bill Evans — More From the Vanguard. The entire day's recordings were released in 2005 as The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings, 1961. Writing for Allmusic, music critic Thom Jurek wrote of the album: "This trio is still widely regarded as his finest, largely because of the symbiotic interplay between its members. This is a great place to begin with Evans." Samuel Chell of All About Jazz wrote "Along with bassist wunderkind Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian, Evans perfected his democratic vision of trio cooperation, where all members performed with perfect empathy and telepathy... It is these performances, currently available as Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby that comprise the number one best jazz live recording in this present series." The album was included in Robert Dimery's 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Miles Davis Kind Of Blue Full Album 1959

Em 2007, Kind of Blue passou a figurar entre os 200 álbuns definitivos no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Em 30 de setembro de 2008, uma edição especial de comemoração ao 50º aniversário de lançamento do LP foi distribuída pela Columbia/Legacy Recordings.
